Mariners Fall To Brewers 9-7
Brad Miller goes 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and a walk. PEORIA, Ariz. – The Seattle Mariners were outscored 7-3 over the final six frames en route to a 9-7 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in Cactus League action in front of 9,198 fans at Peoria Stadium.
Shortstop Brad Miller continued his hot hitting at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples and two runs scored and is now batting .447 (17x38) with 13 runs, one double, four triples, four home runs and eight RBI in 13 games this spring.
After the Brewers took an early lead on a Logan Schafer home run in the first inning, Seattle battled back to take the lead on a Michael Saunders sacrifice fly that scored Kyler Seager and a Dustin Ackley RBI single that plated Logan Morrison.
After Milwaukee tied the game in the second on a home run, Seattle answered back with a three straight hits with one out, a triple by Brad Miller, an opposite field RBI by Robinson Cano and an RBI double by Justin Smoak to pull ahead 4-2.
Despite the comeback, Seattle gave up three home runs over the next three innings, two by starter Blake Beavan and one by Ramon Ramirez to fall behind 8-4. In all, Seattle gave up five home runs with the winds blowing out, all in the first six innings.
Catcher Mike Zunino hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth to close the gap to 8-5. After Milwaukee countered with a run in the seventh, Miller tripled, Cano drove him in with a ground out and Seager hit his first home run of the spring to close the scoring at 9-7.
The Mariners (14-6-3) return to Cactus League action tomorrow with a road game against the Chicago Cubs at Cubs Park (1:05 pm). RH Erasmo Ramirez (2-0, 1.42) will make his fifth appearance and fourth spring start against Cubs RH Jeff Samardzija. The game will be broadcast on a tape delay basis on ESPN 710 Seattle and selected stations on the Mariners radio network and will be televised live by MLB Network. Right-hander Felix Hernandez will work in a minor league game against Milwaukee’s High-A team.
