The British Open starts Thursday and former champion Tiger Woods says his injured elbow is doing just fine and that he is ready to contend for another major. Woods said that although he has not won a major title in five years, he has been close and that he expects to be back in the winner's circle.

US blanks Costa Rica 1-0
Brek Shea scored his first international goal off a feed from Landon Donovan in the 82nd minute to give the United States a 1-0 victory over Costa Rica and the top spot in its Gold Cup group. The Americans play El Salvador on Sunday in Baltimore, while Costa Rica meets Honduras.

Froome remains in front
Chris Froome of Britain has over a four-minute lead in the Tour de France after 16 stages. The winner of the 16th stage was Portugal's Rui Costa, while Froome was well behind. In the all-important overall standings however, Froome leads Dutch rider Bauke Mollema by 4:14.
