Shelton quarterback Jake Beck scored on a one yard keeper in overtime and then found Kris Woods for the two point conversion and the Highclimbers stopped a Stadium two point conversion to win 22-20 in a week 10, non-playoff game at Stadium Bowl in Tacoma.
The Highclimbers struck early when Jake Henry capped off a 76 yard drive on the opening possession with a 22 yard scamper to give them a 7-0 lead.
On the next possession, Tanner Rhodes recovered a fumble at the 50 yard line and returned it to the 12 where Henry again punched it in to put Shelton up 14-0 at the 6:24 mark of the first quarter.
But Stadium responded in the second when Beck was hit as he threw and his floater was picked off by Loftin and returned 55 yards for the touchdown cutting the Highclimbers lead to 14-7
The second half got a little testy and Shelton fullback, linebacker and kicker Gordon Henry was ejected from the game for some extra-curricular activity in the third quarter. Though a big loss at the time, it turned out to be a fortuitous ejection.
Momentum was on Stadium’s side for most of the second half but the Tigers could not capitalize until Loftin scored his second touchdown of the game on a two yard run to tie the game up with 4:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. Neither team could produce points in the final four minutes and regulation ended tied at 14.
Stadium won the toss and elected to give the Highclimbers the ball first. Jake Henry jumped at the opportunity and rushed four times for 24 yards to get the Highclimbers to the one where Beck snuck it in to give Shelton the 20-14 lead.
Without their kicker Henry, Shelton was forced to go for two. Beck rolled left and found Woods in the back of the end zone to give them a 22-14 lead.
The Tigers answered quickly when QB Tre Scott found Devariej Criss running wide open in the end zone for an easy 19 yard strike to cut the Shelton lead to two points at 22-20.
Needing the two point conversion to keep their season alive, Loftin took the hand off and rushed up the middle but was stopped just a yard short by a host of Highclimber defenders to end the game and send Shelton to the offseason on a winning note.
Henry had his best game of the season. The junior rushed for 251 yards and two touchdowns and Shelton finished the 2013 season at 2-8.
