prughCorey Prugh had six straight birdies and shot an 8-under 63 in light rain Sunday for a share of the first-round lead with Rod Perry in the PGA Professional National Championship. Prugh, a PGA assistant professional at Manito in Spokane, Wash., and Perry, the PGA head professional at Crane Lakes in Port Orange, Fla., broke the course record on Sunriver Resort's Meadows course.

Angels Stun Seattle 10-9

mariners400Alberto Callaspo drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the tiebreaking run with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels rallied from an early seven-run deficit for a 10-9 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night. Mike Trout matched his season high with four hits for the Angels, who trailed 8-1 after four innings.

Cougs To Play Rutgers

rutgerscougsRutgers and Washington State have agreed to play a home-and-home football series beginning in 2014.The two universities made the announcement on Wednesday.The first game will be played in Seattle on Aug. 29, 2014, and it will be Rutgers' first as a member of the Big Ten Conference.

Wilson (6-5) struck out three, walked two and allowed only two runners as far as second base en route to his fifth straight victory over the Mariners.

sports2The St. Louis Cardinals have come to terms with Marco Gonzales, their top pick from the Major League Baseball draft this month. Gonzales, taken 19th overall, pitched and played infield at Gonzaga but was drafted as a pitcher. The left-hander is coming off a junior season in which he went 7-3 with a 2.80 ERA. He started 16 of the 17 games he pitched, striking out 96 and walking 25 in 106 innings.
