After Draft When Seattle's Carroll Makes His Pitch

When all the picks are finally done, Pete Carroll starts grabbing phones. The Seattle Seahawks coach reverts to being a recruiter at this point. He bounces between calls to players who were not selected in the NFL draft and might have a place on the Seahawks roster. He tells them that in Seattle they will have a chance to make the roster, and cites the examples of undrafted players getting their shot with the Seahawks and proving to be valuable. Whether it's wide receivers Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse, or offensive lineman Alvin Bailey, the Seahawks showed that undrafted free agents were important to their Super Bowl run. Carroll and general manager John Schneider were already starting their pitch to possible undrafted free agents on Tuesday. May 8, 2014

Blazers Look To Steady Themselves After Spurs Rout

The Portland Trail Blazers aren't in Houston anymore. After feasting on the Rockets' porous perimeter defense in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, the Blazers appeared to be caught off guard when they stepped up in class to face the San Antonio Spurs in the semifinals. The playoff-tested Spurs jumped on the young Blazers in Game 1 on Tuesday night, leading by 13 after the first quarter and by 26 at halftime. By the time Damian Lillard, LaMarcus Aldridge and the rest of the Blazers got their bearings, it was too late and the Spurs won 116-92. San Antonio's defense limited Portland to 37.8 percent shooting and just four 3-pointers. Game 2 is Thursday night in San Antonio. May8, 2014
