footballcollege PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Washington State has promoted Rod Jensen to assistant men's basketball coach, taking the place of Ben Johnson, who recently left the program. Washington State coach Ken Bone announced the decision on Monday. Jensen was hired earlier this year as the Cougars director of player development.

Jonathan Villar's two-run single highlighted a four-run ninth inning as the Houston Astros rallied to beat the Seattle Mariners 6-4 on Monday night in front of the smallest crowd in Safeco Field history. Abraham Almonte hit his first major league homer, a two-run shot in the seventh inning, to give the Mariners a 3-2 lead.

Seattle over Carolina 12-7

seahawkstadiumRussell Wilson threw for 320 yards, including a 43-yard fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse, to lift the Hawks to a 12-7 win Sunday over the Panthers.  The Seahawks managed just two field goals before Kearse beat cornerback Josh Thomas down the right sideline for the go-ahead score with 10:13 left.

Mariners Rally

mariners logo NewJustin Smoak doubled in a pair of runs off Tampa Bay reliever Joel Peralta in the eighth inning and the Seattle Mariners rallied for a 6-4 victory over the Rays on Friday night.  The Rays' lead was cut to two games over the Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles in the race for the second wild-card berth in the American League.
