gonzagabd2Gonzaga roared back from an 11-point halftime deficit pulling away down the stretch to knock off No. 22 Dayton, 75-65 in the Bulldogs' debut under first-year coach Lisa Fortier Sunday. Fortier took over the program after Kelly Graves moved on to coach at Oregon. The Flyers, coming off a 60-76 loss at Washington State Friday, fall to 0-2 for their season-opening road trip. Down 37-29 less than two minutes into the second half, Lindsay Sherbert and Keani Albanez drilled back-to-back 3-pointers and Shelby Cheslek converted a layup to pull Gonzaga even with 16:40 to play. Mariners' Cano Breaks Toe In Japan, Out 3-4 Weeks

cano marinersMariners second baseman Robinson Cano is expected to miss 3-4 weeks after breaking a toe during the Major League Baseball All-Stars tour of Japan. Seattle said Saturday that Cano will not need a cast and the injury will heal with rest. Cano was hit in the right foot by the second pitch of his seventh-inning at bat vs. Samurai Japan pitcher Yuki Nishi. Cano left the game, and x-rays revealed a non-displaced fracture of his right small toe. Mariners Senior Director of Athletic Training Rick Griffin spoke with Cano, who reported no pain. Cano should be able to resume baseball activities in mid-December. Cano will not participate in the remainder of the Japan All-Star Series. tarrowA.G. West Black Hills’ softball player Lexi Tarrow signed her Letter of Intent to play at Brigham Young University (BYU) during a ceremony November 14 at noon at the local high school. The two year All-Area and All-League 2A Evergreen Conference player is slotted to play outfield for the BYU Cougars, who have won six straight conference championships and made nine straight NCAA Softball Championship tournament appearances.

Seattle Hires Hendrickson As Coach Of USL Team

SoundersS2Former MLS player and current Seattle Sounders assistant coach Ezra Hendrickson has been named the first head coach of Sounders 2, the club's USL PRO franchise that will begin in 2015. Hendrickson has been an assistant to coach Sigi Schmid since the club's inception in 2009. Hendrickson spent 14 seasons playing professionally, including 12 in MLS.

football highschoolThe Seattle Seahawks announced today Bothell High School's Tom Bainter and Tumwater High School's Sid Otton as the week 10 "NFL High School Coaches of the Week" presented by Washington Army National Guard.  Last Friday, Bainter's Bothell Cougars defeated the Bethel Braves, 56-7, to improve to 10-0. The no. 2 ranked Cougars takes on the Eastlake Wolves this Friday in the 4A state playoffs.
