Tinkle Formally Introduced At Oregon State

Wayne Tinkle promises to emphasize effort and attitude as Oregon State's basketball coach. Tinkle comes to the Beavers from Montana, where he took the Grizzlies to the NCAA tournament three times during his eight years with the team. Montana finished below .500 only once during his tenure at his alma mater. The 48-year-old Tinkle was announced as head coach Monday night, but the school held a news conference on Wednesday night to introduce him. Tinkle replaces Craig Robinson, brother-in-law of President Barack Obama, after he was fired earlier this month following six seasons with the Beavers where he failed to make the NCAA tournament. The once-proud Beavers have not been to the NCAA tournament since 1990. May 22, 2014

Klinsmann Puts Off Decisions On World Cup Final 23

While other World Cup coaches have pared down their 23-player rosters as they prepare for Brazil, Jurgen Klinsmann prefers to wait. He has brought 30 U.S. hopefuls to Stanford for training camp to ensure he gets his selections just right before the team's June 8 departure to Sao Paulo. This is a change from 2006, when Klinsmann coached his native Germany and announced his roster 3½ weeks ahead of its opener. Nobody is arguing with his methods, given Klinsmann's pedigree. He played for West Germany's winning team at the 1990 World Cup and Germany's winner at the 1996 European Championship, then coached his country to a third-place finish at home in the 2006 World Cup.
