seageraug18Kyle Seager hit an RBI double with two outs in the ninth inning Sunday, lifting the Seattle Mariners over the Texas Rangers 4-3. The Mariners took two of three from AL West-leading Texas. They scored three runs in 7 1-3 innings against Rangers ace Yu Darvish in the series finale.

Westport, CT advances in LLWS

LLWSWinning pitcher Harry Azadian had three hits and four RBIs and Westport, Conn., held off Sammamish, Wash., 9-7 on Sunday to remain unbeaten in the Little League World Series. Westport (2-0) will play the winner of a game between Chula Vista, Calif., and Newark, Del. Westport sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning. In the inning, Sammamish starting pitcher Jacob Dahlstrom was struck on the side of his right knee with a line drive hit by Tatin Llamas and did not return to the game.

Seattle 40-10 Over Denver

hawksbrpreWith Percy Harvin out after hip surgery, it seemed very likely wide receiver Jermaine Kearse would end up on the Seattle Seahawks final roster. He likely cemented his spot Saturday night, showing off skills he never displayed in college or the pros. Kearse caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson and returned a kickoff 107 yards for a score and the Seahawks used big plays to rout the Denver Broncos 40-10 in a preseason game.

Rays Beat Mariners 7-1

marinersSAlex Cobb pitched five strong innings in his first big league game since being hit in the head by a batted ball two months ago and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Seattle Mariners 7-1 on Thursday night. Cobb (7-2) ended his night by striking out Nick Frankiln on a full-count pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth.

Washington Beats Texas In LLWS

Carper homered, Dalton Chandler hit a double and a triple and drove in a run and Sammamish, Wash., beat Corpus Christi, Texas, 8-4 in the first round of the Little League World Series on Thursday. Carper and Chandler both went 3-for-4. Sammamish moves into the winner's bracket and won't have to play again until Sunday against the winner of the game between Nashville, Tenn., and Wesport, Conn. Corpus Christi will play the loser of that game Saturday, facing elimination. Sammamish scored four times in the top of the first. A single by Oscar Hernandez of Corpus Christi scored Brandon DeLeon during a three-run third inning to cut the lead to 5-4. Washington relievers Will Armbruester and Jack Matheson blanked Texas over the final three innings.
