mariners logo NewDaniel Nava's long single to center field capped a six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Boston Red Sox came back to beat the Mariners 8-7 on Thursday night and sweep Seattle in the three-game series. One night after winning in 15 innings for their major league-leading 10th walkoff victory, the Red Sox did it again to open a one-game lead in the AL East over the idle Tampa Bay Rays.

Storm Over Mercury, 88-79

seatte stormTemeka Johnson and Tina Thompson each scored 16 points and the Seattle Storm used a big third quarter to beat the Phoenix Mercury 88-79 on Thursday night. Tanisha Wright added 14 points and seven assists, while Tianna Hawkins had 13 points as the Storm (8-10) rallied from a 13-point deficit in the first half. Thompson also had seven rebounds.

Former NBA Player Ehlo Jailed

ehloAuthorities say former NBA player and Eastern Washington University coach Craig Ehlo has been arrested in Spokane, Wash., in a domestic violence case. The Spokesman-Review reports Ehlo was booked into jail Thursday morning on suspicion of first-degree reckless burning, domestic violence. The charge is a felony.

Red Sox 5-4 Win Over Mariners

mariners400Stephen Drew singled in the winning run in the 15th inning to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners and back into first place in the AL East on Wednesday night. Dustin Pedroia drew a leadoff walk and took second on a groundout by David Ortiz. Mike Napoli was walked intentionally and Jarrod Saltalamacchia struck out. Jonny Gomes then walked, loading the bases, and Drew hit a liner just inside the right-field line as Pedroia scored the decisive run.
